DONATIONS TO "HOUSING FUND"
Big Picture: We need funds to operate our alumni activities, and funds to add to to our scholarship fund, but we also need funds for a fraternity house. We are working toward Kappa Gamma being re-chartered in the 2025-2026 academic year, hopefully in the Fall semester, and we hope to find a house for them before the Fall 2026 semester begins.
Creation of A Housing Specific Nonprofit: Times have changed. 20-year old students cannot easily go out and rent a large house today that will be the Kappa Gamma house for years to come. And actives are only around for a few years, with a new Commander every year. Therefore, Sigma Nu Educational Foundation, which can help with financing and grants for a house, wisely looks to established alumni groups to own or lease and oversee a house for the chapter. So in preparation for finding Kappa Gamma a house, in 2024 we formed a totally separate nonprofit corporation, Sigma Nu Fraternity-Kappa Gamma Housing, Inc. (referred to as "Housing, Inc."), dedicated to helping to provide a house for the Kappa Gamma Chapter. That nonprofit corporation uses our alumni website to raise money for that purpose and that purpose only.
Options: Housing, Inc. has short-range and long-range objectives:
Other options include Housing, Inc. finding an investor group that will buy a house, or lease with an option to buy. The investor group would sublease, and maybe eventually sell, the house to Housing, Inc., who in turn would rent it out to Kappa Gamma actives and oversee and manage the house. Sigma Nu Educational Foundation, where our Legacy, Inc., scholarship funds are held, may be able to support that effort with mortgage loans that they make for houses and educational grants they can award for education-related costs of a house (like a study room, internet service, etc.). Anyone interested in becoming part of an investor group should contact the President of Housing, Inc., Dan Scofield, by clicking on this link: dannyscofield@yahoo.com
Our Existing Fund/A Great Start: The good news is that the Housing nonprofit has a substantial nest egg, over $15,000, started by Danny and others more than 30 years ago. But to lease a house, those funds and more will be needed when the time comes to sign a lease and pay expenses while collecting rent from the actives.
And to someday own a house, the nest egg left over from 30 years ago has to grow. It has done so over those years by being professionally invested, but it needs your support--donations during an annual campaign, or donations anytime, or bequests you can make as part of your estate planning. All of those will help to grow the Housing Fund to the point that Kappa Gamma might someday have a permanent house owned and managed by alumni through Housing, Inc.
Donation Options: Every Brother who donates will be recognized. Your engagement is more important than the number of dollars. But for those of you who can, we ask that you consider donating yearly--at the "White Rose" level for $100 per year, or the "Red Carnation" level for $200 per year or more. And, of course, if you are interested in becoming an investor in the purchase of a house, there will be special recognition accorded.
Tribute Donations: If your donation is in honor or memory of someone, please note that in the "Reference" line for online credit card donations, or on the mailing/info form for check donations, and include an email address so we can tell the appropriate person that you made a tribute donation.
