Make sure you have, or create, 5 essentials re your affairs.

One of the things we deal with, unfortunately, is brothers passing.  We all can learn from each other's life lessons, and we all can pass on what we learn--that is what brothers do.  We have collectively learned some things along the way, and here is some brotherly advice for you to consider.

If you love your family, no matter how young and healthy you are, maybe especially if you are so young that you have young children, no matter if you feel invincible or vulnerable, you should have some things in place to help them deal with your affairs.  After all, anything can happen, anytime.

We have learned you need to consider at least 5 things:

    1. trust for yourself or you and your spouse
    2. AND a will or wills, alone or with the trust
    3. AND a durable power of attorney for financial matters if you are incapacitated
    4. AND advance health care directives to predetermine end-of-life health choices
    5. AND, a “doomsday packet” with info about banks, insurance, pensions, property/deeds, passwords, pink slips, a map showing where you buried your cash in the backyard, etc., in the hands of one or two people you can rely on to open when only when the time comes.

It will take some hours of your time and cost a few thousand dollars if you hire a decent lawyer to do a decent job, but there are some online D-I-Y solutions and something is better than nothing.

Having the above can save estate costs and, more importantly, unnecessary delays and hardship, and extra grief, heartache and chaos for your family.

Some of you know all this stuff better than we do, and have taken care of this long ago, but you would be amazed, as we are, that it seems most of us avoid or delay taking care of our families regarding these things. So if you love your family, do them and yourself a favor, do what you can NOW.

Parents around?  Another tip, if your parents are still alive, do this yourself first, so then you can tell your parents what you did and ask if they have taken care of these things themselves in order to make things easier for you and the rest of their family.

Changes?  And when you move to another state, or have a change in your family, you should check and update the above actions as necessary.

"Here's to all our brothers in Chapter Eternal . . ."

    REESTABLISHMENT HAS STARTED

    JUST OUR FIRST REACH OUT

    AND 25 PROSPECIVE RECRUITS

BIG SHOUT OUT FOR ALL WHO HELPED

    Hello Brothers,

We had a successful "Meet the Greeks" event at CPP on Thursday 8/31.

The event had a strong turn out with 5 Kappa Gamma alumni, 4 UCI, 1 UCLA, and 1 UoA brothers present for an hour and a half to recruit good men. It was great to be back on campus. Although the campus changed a lot, the desired feeling of belonging remains the same. Many students were walking around and finding a good fraternity to join. We had a successful recruitment strategy in place and gathered 25 potential re-founding members within the allotted time. Wish you were there to feel the synergy!

The IFC president came to our table informing us of the new recruitment policy. Before he walked away, he shared with us this "it looks like you guys know what you're doing and you are here to take care of business. You will be successful in Spring!"

Our well-thought-out game plan includes at least the following:

    • Potential New Members - submit names who are attending CPP currently.
    • Alumni Advisory Board - AAB should be one on one mentoring to each Chapter officer. It is the advisor's job to provide proper guidance and make sure the officer is doing the right thing. We will have a training soon If you are interested, email Jordan Wu jcpwu237@gmail.com
    • House Corporation Board - If you have expertise on this, email Jack Carlino jackpal1@aol.com

We appreciate Brother Michael Calderon (KG#293, Spring 2000) referring his nephew to us. He came with 3 of his friends to our table. These young men were ready to join Sigma Nu. They were walking alongside us recruiting other good men in University Park.

Give some applause to men below:

    CPP Sigma Nu

    Al Quiming (KG#147, Spring 1990)

Welcome to our Periodic, Occasional (OK, Random) Newsletter!

Read below and click on the links for details.
Email any items of interest to info@pscsn.org

    Good Day Brothers,

    • Re-colonization efforts are moving along. However, we need all brothers to register on our website, update their profile and enter complete networking information. This will help the SN National and CPP to know that we’re serious about coming back to Cal Poly.
    • Directory, in preparation for your registering and updating, has been re-organized so that it’s easier to understand, update and find information about other brothers.
    • Networking Exchange has been changed from business services per Devin Stetler ‘s suggestion. If brothers update the networking information on their profile, it will make it much easier for brothers to find other brothers that have interest in certain hobbies, career advice, expertise, life experiences and networking connections.
    • Job Board is still a drop down under Networking Exchange where brothers can post job openings or post job wanted.
    • Pete Meisenzahl is looking for brothers that have motorcycles so he can complete his start up business.
      • Brothers. As some of you are aware, I have started a new business venture that might provide me with dozens of dollars of passive income (that is my sarcasm speaking). But I need some help setting some things up. I have combined my love of motorcycles with my part time photography business and have set up a studio to take artistic photos of motorcycles. I put these images on products via an Etsy store front to sell to bike enthusiasts. Initially, I am offering to photograph everyone's bike for free. You get all the photos at no charge and in return, you sign a release for the rights to me. So now I need bikes to photograph. Here is the ask - Do you or anyone you know have a motorcycle I can photograph? I am in the city of Orange. I work from home, so I may be able to schedule sessions during the week, but weekends are usually free. The session should be less than an hour. DM me if you or someone you know is interested. I need hundreds of bikes for this venture to be viable. All makes and models of street bikes and scooters (Vespas). I do not see a market for dirt bikes, but I could be wrong. In the meantime, here are some cool photos and videos.

    • Frank Vestey lives in Whitefish Montana and sells his photographs. If you want something specific contact him at frank_vestey@yahoo.com
    • Linda Wissler, Bob Wissler's wife live in Portugal and cruised the world because she taught art on the cruise line. If you need a special painting contact them at www.lindawissler.com  or http://wisslerpleinairart.com/.
    • Lost brothers, Brian Wheeler is looking for information on SN-KG Lost Brothers that are listed on the website. Lost brother of the month is Kala Mahlese, and we were informed he may have gone home to the Congo so if you have information please provide.
    • Frat House at 650 E. Alvarado St. , John Vandevelde needs information and pics of is to complete his story.
    • Frat Photos send to info@pscsn.com or post on website .
    • Search the directories to find brothers that live in your town or your state as I did recently and found one in St. John county Florida.
    • Family Fun Day Oct 14 Mile Square Park, sign up now online.  Contact Quang Dang if you want to help.
    • April luncheon event being planned at CPP to include new KG recruits/candidates
    • Ron Snyder is recovering at home after receiving cancer treatment at City of Hope.  You can send an email to Ron at ronsnyder7@verizon.net

"WHERE DID WE FIND SIGMA NU?"

That's what the Cal Poly staffers were asking Assistant Athletic Director Lauren Goins at the fund-raising golf tournament at Glendora Country Club on Monday.

The staffers were asking because there were so many of us, we had our name on so many tees, our name rang out as the sponsor of so many of the contests and we were generally flying our flag loud and proud all day.

Of course, the answer to the staffer's question was, "We have been here since 1957, we have not been on campus for a while, but we are coming back strong--with recolonization starting in January, 2024."

And just like we had hoped, that answer was obvious to every one of the 100+ golfers and all the staff.

      • We had more golfers than any other alumni group--by far!!
      • We sponsored multiple tee signs like the one above proclaiming, "SIGMA NU, Returns Spring '24" (Photo above, L to R: Tyler Harvey (S-11), Jim Clark (S-80/SN Omega), John Mairs (F-85), Scott Wilson (F-80, SN Omega), Cameron Oschmann [son of Mark Oschmann (F-81, SN Omega), not in photo], Mike Blay (F-83), Juan Lopez (F-78, SN Founder 82, "SN#1," EC-81-82) , Vince Dudziak (F-84), Steven Asebedo, guest)
      • One of our Brothers, Brad Baggarly, also sponsored a hole.
      • We sponsored awards for putting, mulligan, long drive and closest to the pin contests
      • And at the awards dinner, we provided a check to each of the six lucky contest winners, with a big "shout out" for us each time.
Lauren said afterward, "You guys promised to double your participation from last year, and you exceeded that.  We really appreciate the support."

One of the new PSC-SN Legacy, Inc., Directors, Brian Wheeler (F-84, EC 86-87) organized the event last year.  He and Director & Events Chair Juan Lopez organized this year's event and they did a FANTASTIC JOB!.  "Many thanks" to both of you!!

There  were 18 Brothers, sons and guests playing.  See photo above, L to R: Vince Dudziak, Tyler Harvey, John Mairs, Tony Ochoa (F-85), Brian Wheeler, Greg Vancil (S-84), Steve Vengrow (F-84), Mike Blay, Brad Baggarly (S-82, EC 84-85), Mitch McCarley (F-84), Steve Hovland (S-83), Scott Wilson (F-80/SN Omega), Juan Lopez, J. Clark, Aiden McCarley (Mitch's son and recent college graduate--"Congratulations" to Mitch and Aiden), Davis Holland (Steve's son).

Reports are that Brian Wheeler's group, with Tony Ochoa, Mitch McCarley and Aidan McCarley, led our guys by coming in 4th overall at 3 under, aided by a couple of driver shots "off the deck" (a no tee, fairway shot) and by Brian holing out from 87 yards for an eagle on the 12th.

A great time was had by all and by the end of the day Brian and Juan were starting to plan how to double our turnout again next year.  (Photo below, L to R:  Mike Blay, Greg Vancil, Mitch McCarley, Brian Wheeler, Tony Ochoa, Steve Vengrow, Juan Lopez, Vince Dudziak.)

CAL POLY DEFINITELY KNOWS WHO WE ARE!

      HOUSE HISTORY #4

House #4, 754 Park Avenue, Pomona

The third installment (Houses #1, 3101 Pomona Blvd. and #2 866 Foothill Blvd., are combined) of the history of our houses, written by Steve Frady (W-68; Hon. Nu), with photos, maps and other images telling the story of House #4, 754 Park Avenue, Pomona, which we had from Spring, 1970 until, we think, sometime in 1973, is now available as a pdf file.

Many thanks to Steve, who, besides being a career firefighter, had a career as a journalist and editor.  He is a natural historian, having saved and shared many photos and other memorabilia from those days.  And he is a gifted writer; we are lucky to have the benefit of his work.

To read Steve's story, just click on this link:

      A LIFE CUT SHORT

One effort we are making through our website is to capture and preserve our history.   We all learned some of our history as pledges, including our founding in 1957 by the 12-Pack.  Nobody who has any meaningful personal recollections of founder Jim Bastady is around anymore, but at one point each of us had to recite Jim's name and those of the other founders.  You may even have learned that he died in a forest fire--becoming the first of our brothers to go to Chapter Eternal.

But do you know, or remember, anything more?

Have you ever seen a photograph of Jim?

Are there lessons about life we can learn from Jim?

Yes there are! Read this . . .

      AND NOW THERE ARE 16

NEW DIRECTORS, NEW BLOOD, NEW ENERGY, NEW IDEAS

MORE ERAS AND MORE OPPORTUNITIES FOR YOU

      IN OUR "YEAR OF REVIVAL"

It gives me great pleasure to announce that the Slate Nominees chosen by me to fill the 4 new director openings have all been elected. As of July 1--

      • Jonathan Shearer (S-06)
      • Alex Miller (F-10)
      • Robert Walczak (F-06)
      • Brian Wheeler (F-84)

These additional members of the Board, and the three directors we re-elected, Ken Coopman (S-66), Robert Marshall (F-66) and Brian Rheinhardt (F-79), bring our number to 16.

A GOOD TIME TO RAISE YOUR HAND & SIGN UP

Having 16 people actively involved is only a beginning.  We still desire additional brothers who are willing to help create a buzz around our “Year of Revival” beginning in the Spring semester of 2024.  Serve on a committee!

      • The Alumni Advisory Committee will work with recruits and Sigma Nu.
      • The Legacy Fund Committee will be considering scholarships again.
      • We will have some event in the Spring to include Kappa Gamma candidates.

      REGISTRATION--
